Reagan’s Last Political Gift

This is an commentary piece on MSNBC’s Web Site from Jonathan Alter on why he feels President Reagan would have been in favor of stem-cell research.  It is very moving and yet practical at the same time.  Click here for the story.

Court dismisses Pledge case

From CNN.com:

The Supreme Court at least temporarily preserved the phrase “one nation, under God,” in the Pledge of Allegiance, ruling Monday that a California atheist could not challenge the patriotic oath while stepping the broader question of separation of church and state.

This American Life: Psuedo Science

I listened to an excellent episode of This American Life early this morning.  Three segments; all about psuedo science.  The one that really got my blood boiling was the middle story about Bush’s appointment of non-scientists to scientific advisory boards.  You HAVE to listen to this one!

All the shows are available on thier website to listen to for free (well, not really for free; you must endure the always painful installation of RealPlayer in order for this to work).

Here’s the show description:

Fake Science. Stories of people trying to drag science where it doesn’t belong. Jake Warga (pictured) attempts to record the voices of the dead in a “haunted” cemetary. Jack Hitt explains the scientific discoveries and theories made by people who don’t believe in evolution. Among their goals: to prove that man and dinosaur lived side by side just a few thousand years ago. Broadcast the weekend of May 21-23 in most places, or available here via RealAudio next week.
