Airport Express
After hobbling along on my old 802.11b wireless network for at least 3 years, I finally decided to upgrade to an Airport Express. I love it.
It’s got a few key pieces of technology that make me smile.
- WPA2—The latest in wireless security. No longer wondering if someone is using my wireless
- WDS - Wireless Distribution System. Set up a true mesh network in wireless. Wiki entry here.
- 802.11g - With all the iTunes / iPhoto / network sharing I’m doing with my iMac downstairs, I can really feel the increased speed.
- AirTunes - The Airport Express has an optical out to my stereo, so I can play music on our main stereo from either the iMac or the iBook.
- Printer Sharing - It has a built in printer sharing capability.
- Very small - If this thing wasn’t so useful, or I had two, I’d be throwing it in my laptop bag everywhere I go…
I’ve just set my daughter, Sabrina, up with an old PowerMac G4 that I just loaded Tiger on, so she’ll be able to stream music to it too.
